With a press conference in the Borromäus pharmacy on February 22nd, 2007 the pilot project “Medicine Safety Belt with e-card” started in Salzburg. The conversation partners were Dr. Andrea Kdolsky (Minister for Health and Women), Mag. Gabi Burgstaller (Governor of Salzburg), President Dr. Friedemann Bachleitner-Hoffmann (Austrian Chamber of Pharmacists in Salzburg) and DI Volker Schörghofer (Deputy General Director, Main Association of Austrian Social Insurance Institutions).

In cooperation with the Ministry for Health, the provincial government of Salzburg, the Main Association of Austrian Social Insurance Institutions and the Austrian Camber of Pharmacists the pilot project “Medicine Safety Belt” was established.  For the first time the distribution of drugs can be checked with regard to dangerous interactions and collateral effects in all pharmacies participating in the project (after all 69). For the customers the participation is optional, free of charge and in strict compliance with data security and privacy. The key for this service is the e-card which now can also be used in the pharmacies.

Buergerkarte_neu.jpg

Since January 2008 so called qualified certificates are issued on the e-card. This guarantees a largely standardized technological basis for the easy use of citizen cards in most fields of public life.

Unlike administrative signature certificates, qualified certificates are subject to europeanwide standardized guidelines and therefore are accepted all over Europe. By using qualified signatures the citizen card can also be used for further applications like e-banking, participation in electronic tendering, and so on.
